ABYC E-11 Compliance Matters

Marine wiring standards require ignition-protected devices in engine compartments, tinned copper wire, properly rated fusing within 7 inches of the battery, and color-coded conductors. We design all our marine installs to meet or exceed ABYC E-11.

Single unit replaces a separate inverter, battery charger, and shore power transfer switch. Accepts 30A or 50A shore power. PowerAssist prevents tripping the dock pedestal breaker.

Quattro 24/5000 or 48/5000

Two AC inputs — connect shore power to Input 1 and a generator to Input 2. The Quattro automatically selects the best source and can charge from both simultaneously. Essential for offshore passages with a genset.

SmartSolar 100/30 — 150/60

Manages solar input on boats where deck space limits panel size. Bluetooth-enabled for monitoring from the chart table. VE.Direct connects to the Cerbo GX for unified system visibility.

Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30A or 24/24-17A

Charges the house bank from the engine alternator while motoring. Galvanically isolated to protect against stray current corrosion — critical in a marine environment. Works with smart alternators.

Cerbo GX + VRM Portal

Connects all Victron devices and outputs battery state, solar production, and AC load data onto the NMEA 2000 network — visible on any compatible chartplotter (Garmin, Raymarine, Navionics).

Galvanic Isolator

Victron Galvanic Isolator VDI-32A

Blocks low-frequency DC currents that travel through the shore power ground conductor and cause underwater metal corrosion. Required any time you connect to shore power in a marina.

⚡ Always Install a Galvanic Isolator

Shore power ground conductors carry stray DC current that silently eats your through-hulls, prop, and shaft. A galvanic isolator (or isolation transformer for full protection) blocks this. Non-negotiable for any boat that regularly docks at a marina.

🚢 Isolate Engine Start from House Bank

Keep your engine start battery separate from the house bank. Use a dedicated Victron Orion-Tr Smart to top up the house bank from the alternator without combining the two banks. You’ll always have start power even if the house bank is depleted.

💡 Use Tinned Copper Wire Throughout

Bare copper oxidizes rapidly in a marine environment — especially in bilge areas or near salt air. Tinned copper wire (required by ABYC) resists corrosion at the conductor level, not just at the terminals. Don’t cut corners here.

📡 Connect Cerbo GX to Your Chartplotter

The Cerbo GX outputs battery state-of-charge, solar production, and AC load data onto NMEA 2000. Compatible Garmin, Raymarine, and Navionics displays can show your full electrical status right at the helm — no need to go below to check the system.

☀️ Flexible Panels for Curved Decks

Rigid panels are efficient but hard to mount on most sailboat cabintops or powerboat hardtops. Semi-flexible mono panels (100W each) can follow the deck curve and are far easier to install with minimal drilling. Shade from rigging is your bigger efficiency loss anyway.

🔥 Fuse Within 7 Inches of the Battery

ABYC E-11 requires a fuse or circuit breaker within 7 inches of each battery terminal on ungrounded conductors. In a bilge environment a short can ignite fuel vapors. A properly fused system is the difference between an electrical fault and a fire.
