Watts vs. Watt-hours: Watts is the rate of power use; Watt-hours (Wh) is the total energy over time. A 100W device running 3 hours uses 300 Wh.
Duty cycle: A 12V compressor fridge labeled 45W might only run 40-50% of the time - enter ~20-23 hours if it cycles on and off. A realistic fridge load is often 30-50 Wh per hour of clock time.
Inverter loads: For AC appliances from an inverter, divide wattage by 0.9 to account for inverter losses (100W AC load = ~111W from battery).
Add a buffer: We recommend adding 20-25% to your total for parasitic loads, inefficiencies, and future growth.
