The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250/60-Tr is the high-voltage entry to the 250V SmartSolar family — same 60A charge current as the 150/60-Tr, but with 250V max PV input instead of 150V. The 250V headroom is what you want when you're stringing 4–6 residential panels in series, dealing with very cold climates, or running long PV cable distances. Terminal-block ("Tr") connections for direct hard-wiring.
Solar array sizing
| Battery bank | Maximum solar array | Typical setup |
|---|---|---|
| 12V | ~860W | 3× 300W residential panels in series |
| 24V | ~1720W | 5–6× residential panels in series strings |
| 48V | ~3450W | 8–10× residential panels in long series strings |
Maximum PV open-circuit voltage: 250V — lets you wire 4–6 standard 60-cell residential panels in series without cold-weather risk.
150V vs 250V — which one?
| 250/60-Tr (this model) | 150/60-Tr | |
|---|---|---|
| SKU | SCC125060221 | SCC115060211 |
| Max PV voltage | 250V | 150V |
| Max charge current | 60A | 60A |
| Best for | 4–6 residential panels in series, long cable runs, very cold climates | 2–3 residential panels in series, moderate climates, shorter cable |
| Price | $435.20 | $368.90 |
Rule of thumb: add up the Voc of all panels in your longest series string and multiply by 1.25 for cold-weather safety. If that number is below 100V, stick with 150V. If it's 100–175V, choose 250V.

Recommended applications
- Off-grid homestead with roof-mount residential panels — 48V with 4–6 panels per string
- Long PV cable runs — higher voltage = less line loss over distance
- Alaska / Canadian / Northern installs — extreme cold-weather Voc spikes
- Commercial / telecom remote sites — series-string roof or ground-mount
- Large marine — yacht with mast-mounted panels and long cable runs
