The Victron SmartShunt 500A is a precision battery monitor without a head unit — your phone is the display. Same accuracy as the BMV-712 in a compact shunt-only package, ideal for installs where you don't need (or want) a panel-mounted screen. Works on any 12V, 24V, or 48V system from 6.5V to 70V.
Connects to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth and the free VictronConnect app — see real-time state-of-charge, voltage, current, power, time-remaining, and 30 days of historical trend data.
Why the SmartShunt 500A
- BMV-712 accuracy at lower cost — same precision shunt and the same Victron measurement firmware, just without the wall-mounted display unit.
- Bluetooth built-in — pair directly with the VictronConnect app on iPhone or Android. No extra dongles needed.
- True state-of-charge, not voltage guessing — counts every amp in and out for fuel-gauge accuracy on lithium, AGM, and lead-acid banks.
- VE.Direct port for Cerbo GX — plug into a Cerbo GX (cable sold separately) for full system integration and remote monitoring via VRM Portal.
- Programmable auxiliary input — measure battery temperature (with optional sensor), midpoint voltage to spot a weak cell in a series bank, or monitor a second 12V starter battery.
- Compact install footprint — no panel cutout required, mount the shunt directly on the battery negative cable.

SmartShunt 500A vs BMV-712 — which one?
Choose the SmartShunt 500A if you don't need a wall-mounted display, want to save on panel real-estate, or do all your monitoring from your phone. Choose the BMV-712 if you want a dedicated head unit (good for installs where guests, crew, or family members will also want to see battery status without an app).
