The Victron SmartShunt 300A is the compact, budget-friendly battery monitor in the SmartShunt family — sized for smaller 12V systems where peak current stays under 300A. Same Victron measurement firmware and same ±0.4% accuracy as the larger shunts, in a smaller, cheaper package. Ideal for van builds, small RVs, day-sailing boats, and modest off-grid installs.
No display — your phone is the screen via Bluetooth and the free VictronConnect app. View real-time state-of-charge, voltage, current, power, time-remaining, and 30 days of historical trend data.
Is 300A enough for my system?
The shunt size needs to handle your peak current — that's typically driven by your inverter size on the discharge side, and your alternator + solar on the charge side.
| Inverter size (12V) | Peak current draw | 300A shunt suitable? |
|---|---|---|
| 1000W | ~83A continuous, ~170A surge | Yes — comfortable headroom |
| 1500W | ~125A continuous, ~250A surge | Yes — close to limit, fine for most use |
| 2000W | ~167A continuous, ~330A surge | Borderline — surges can clip; consider 500A |
| 3000W | ~250A continuous, ~500A surge | No — choose the 500A or 1000A |
Add ~30% headroom for charging + simultaneous loads. If you're unsure, oversize to the SmartShunt 500A — only $15 more and you get peace of mind for future expansion.
Why the SmartShunt 300A
- Same accuracy as the BMV-712 — ±0.4% precision on lithium, AGM, gel, and flooded batteries.
- Bluetooth built-in — pair directly with VictronConnect on iPhone or Android.
- True state-of-charge — counts every amp in and out for fuel-gauge accuracy, not voltage guessing.
- VE.Direct port for Cerbo GX — plug into a Cerbo GX for full system integration and VRM Portal remote monitoring.
- Programmable auxiliary input — temperature, midpoint voltage, or second battery monitoring.
- VE.Smart Networking — shares battery data wirelessly with other Victron devices to coordinate charging.
- Compact install footprint — smaller physical shunt, easier to fit in tight battery compartments.
What's in the box
