The Victron Quattro 12/5000/220-100/100 120V VE.Bus UL 458 is the premium 12V inverter/charger — 5000VA pure sine output (4000W continuous), massive 220A multi-stage charger, dual 100A AC inputs, UL 458 marine certified. This is the high-end of the 12V product line, designed for larger yachts and serious 12V off-grid installations where you need substantial AC capability without going to 24V or 48V.
When to choose 12V at this size
At 5000VA, most installs would benefit from going 24V or 48V to reduce battery current. But there are valid reasons to stay 12V even at this scale:
- Existing 12V infrastructure — you have a large 12V battery bank already and aren't ready to convert
- Marine 12V house bank — many sailing yachts stick with 12V for compatibility with electronics, water pumps, lighting
- Compatibility — 12V is the universal small-vehicle standard; many accessories are 12V-only
- Single-bank simplicity — one battery bank serves both house and starter functions on a yacht
Note: at 5000VA / 12V, peak current at the battery is ~500A. Cable sizing, fuse selection, and battery bank capacity become critical.
What 5000VA powers
- Marine AC (mid-size unit) with PowerAssist for startup surge
- Galley appliances + air conditioning + entertainment simultaneously
- 240V household equipment via external autotransformer
- Power tools on the dock or aboard
- Whole-yacht "unrestricted living" load
- Off-grid cabin with substantial daily AC consumption
Why the Quattro 12/5000
- 5000VA / 4000W pure sine inverter — high-output 12V single-unit capacity
- 220A multi-stage charger — fast charging of a large 12V bank from shore or generator
- Dual 100A AC inputs — shore + onboard generator with automatic switching
- UL 458 certified — legal for marine and mobile install
- PowerControl + PowerAssist — boost limited shore (16A or 30A) for peak loads
- VE.Bus networking — parallel up to 6 units
- Generator auto-start compatible — with appropriate auto-start hardware
- Multi-stage adaptive charging — AGM, Gel, Flooded, LiFePO4 profiles
