The Victron MultiPlus 12/3000/120-50 is the workhorse inverter/charger for 12V off-grid and backup-power systems — 3000VA of pure sine wave inverter output (2400W continuous), 120A of multi-stage battery charger, 50A AC transfer switch, and a 16A power assist function that lets your inverter "boost" shore power or generator power for high-draw loads. This is the UL 1741 + UL 458 certified version, suitable for both off-grid AND grid-tie applications.
Why the MultiPlus 12/3000/120-50
- 3000VA / 2400W pure sine inverter — enough for most RV / marine / off-grid AC loads
- 120A multi-stage charger — fast charging when on shore or generator power
- 50A AC pass-through transfer switch — automatically transfers between shore/generator and inverter
- PowerAssist — inverter "boosts" limited shore power (e.g., 16A pedestal) to handle high-draw moments like AC startup, microwave + coffee maker
- PowerControl — dynamically reduces charging current when AC loads spike, preventing nuisance breaker trips
- UL 1741 + UL 458 certified — the only Victron version legal for grid-tied installations in the US, AND certified for mobile/marine use
- VE.Bus networking — parallel or 3-phase capable with additional MultiPlus units; pairs with SmartShunt, MPPT, and Cerbo GX
- Multi-stage adaptive charging — bulk, absorption, float, equalization with profiles for AGM, Gel, Flooded, LiFePO4
- Built-in temperature compensation — with optional remote temp sensor
What it powers
3000VA / 2400W continuous (6000W peak) is enough to run:
- RV air conditioner (one mid-size unit, with PowerAssist help on startup)
- Microwave (1000W typical)
- Coffee maker + toaster
- Mid-size refrigerator + everything else simultaneously
- Power tools (table saw, miter saw on intermittent duty)
- Whole-RV "normal living" load (lights, TV, computers, charging)
- Off-grid cabin essentials (well pump on intermittent, refrigerator, lights, TV, computers)

Recommended applications
- RV / Class A motorhome — primary inverter/charger for whole-coach AC power
- Off-grid cabin — 12V battery bank with grid-quality AC output
- Marine — sailboats and powerboats with 12V house bank and AC equipment
- Backup power — grid-connected home or business with battery backup (UL 1741 makes this legal)
- Mobile commercial — surveillance trailers, food trucks, mobile workshops
- Tiny home / ADU — off-grid or hybrid grid-tie
MultiPlus vs MultiPlus-II — which one?
The MultiPlus (this product) is the original VE.Bus inverter/charger. The MultiPlus-II is the newer generation with additional features: built-in grounding relay, current sensor for ESS (energy-storage-system) self-consumption mode, and slightly different external dimensions. For most off-grid, RV, and marine applications, the original MultiPlus is equally capable. For grid-tied ESS (selling solar back to the grid, time-shifting), the MultiPlus-II is the right pick.
