The Victron BMV-712 Smart is a precision battery monitor that tells you exactly how much energy is left in your battery bank — not just voltage, but real state-of-charge, current draw, time-to-empty, and historical usage. Built around a precision 500A shunt and Victron's industry-standard accuracy, it works on any 12V, 24V, or 48V system between 6.5V and 70V.
This is the BLACK model — visually matches Victron's MultiPlus, Quattro, and Cerbo GX product line.
Why the BMV-712
- True state-of-charge, not voltage guessing — voltage alone is a terrible indicator of remaining lithium or AGM capacity. The BMV-712 uses a shunt to count every amp in and out, giving you a precise percentage like a fuel gauge.
- Bluetooth + VictronConnect app — monitor from your phone in real time. View live data plus 30 days of historical charge/discharge trends.
- Built-in display unit — wall-mountable head unit shows SoC, voltage, current, power, time-remaining, and consumed amp-hours at a glance. Readable in direct sunlight.
- Programmable auxiliary input — measure battery temperature (with optional sensor), midpoint voltage to detect a weak cell in a series bank, or monitor a second 12V starter battery.
- Programmable relay — drive an external alarm, auto-disconnect non-essential loads at low SoC, or trigger a generator-start signal.
- Cerbo GX ready — pair via VE.Direct cable (sold separately) for full system integration and remote monitoring via VRM Portal.

The BMV-712 is the right pick for most installs where you want a dedicated display. If you don't need a head unit and prefer phone-only monitoring, the SmartShunt 500A is the same accuracy in a shunt-only package at lower cost. If you want a smaller display footprint without wireless, the older BMV-700 is still a great option.
