The Victron Argofet 200-2 is a FET-based battery isolator that charges two separate battery banks from a single alternator — with virtually zero voltage drop and no parasitic draw between banks. The right pick for boats and RVs with separate starter and house banks where you want simple alternator charging without a DC-DC charger.
How an Argofet works
Traditional diode-based isolators lose ~0.7V across each diode — enough to prevent a lead-acid bank from reaching full charge. FET-based isolators (Argofet) use MOSFET transistors instead, dropping voltage by only ~0.02V at full load. That difference matters: your house bank actually gets to absorption voltage instead of sitting at 13.7V indefinitely.
Argofet also blocks current between banks, so a deeply discharged house bank can't drain your starter battery when the engine is off.
Argofet vs DC-DC Charger — which one?
| Argofet 200-2 (this product) | Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC Charger | |
|---|---|---|
| Lithium-safe | No — not for lithium house banks | Yes — current-limited for alternator safety |
| Voltage drop | ~0.02V (effectively zero) | Slight (charge voltage regulated) |
| Battery chemistry matching | Same chemistry both banks | Different chemistry on each end OK |
| Alternator compatibility | Standard alternators only | Works with smart/regulated alternators too |
| Cost | $119.85 | $215.05–$243.95 |
| Best for | Lead-acid start + lead-acid house | Lithium house bank, modern vehicles |
Choose Argofet if: both banks are lead-acid/AGM (same chemistry), you have a standard (non-smart) alternator, and you want a low-cost, simple solution.
Choose DC-DC Charger if: you have a lithium house bank, you have a smart alternator (Euro 6, etc.), or you want proper 3-stage charge management.
Why the Argofet 200-2
- 200A total capacity — handles full alternator output for most marine/RV applications
- 2 output banks — starter + house from single alternator

Recommended applications
- Boat with starter + house (both lead-acid) — simple alternator charging of both
- RV with chassis + house (both lead-acid) — budget alternative to DC-DC charger
- Tow vehicle to trailer (lead-acid both) — trailer house bank charges while driving
- Older vehicle without smart alternator — standard alternator works perfectly
- Marine commercial — simple, no-fail isolation
- Backup gen-start systems — isolate generator starter from main bank
